Popular Acne Treatments

Acne and progesterone are two major concepts that bother most of the medical professionals when they talk about the causes and treatments of acne. As you may know, acne is a common chronic skin disorder that affects millions of people of every age, gender, and race. In fact, almost ninety percent of the world’s total populations are victims of acne.

According to certain studies, acne and progesterone shows a certain connection in terms of causes and treatment. The connection between acne and progesterone appears to be more evident with the fact that progesterone is deemed as one of the factors that trigger the formation and development of acne, while others have considered that progesterone is necessary for fighting acne.

To explain the connection between acne and progesterone, certain studies have found out that during the menstrual period, a possible cause for acne formation, there is basically hormonal imbalances as the progesterone secretion increases prior to menstruation. It has been highly noted that in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, progesterone is actually secreted abundantly by the corpus lutcum. As this occurs, the body then takes up great amount of pantothenic acid from the body’s pantothenic pool leading to a re-distribution of the vitamin as well as placing enormous pressure on the fatty acid metabolism. When such metabolic process is moving poorly or not performing satisfactorily, the lipid then starts to form into a mass in the sebaceous glands, which are the oil producing glands. This is now where the acne and progesterone relationship becomes much evident as an increase in sebum is excreted with such process and acne, no doubt, follows.

Most skin care experts who are studying the link between acne and progesterone conclude that the above-mentioned process is the main reason why a high level of progesterone in the late stage of the luteal phase basically leaves the acne victim with a prominent breakout. This takes place even though the progesterone hormone has really no known impact on the activity of the oil producing glands.

Further studies are still conducted to know the real connection between acne and progesterone. Many have thought that acne and progesterone are in a close bond as progesterone helps to eliminate acne. This is basically the reason that you may see some products out there highlighting progesterone as a treatment for acne. However, many still believe that progesterone is but one of the minor factors that trigger the formation of acne. Whatever the findings may be, acne continues to be a very serious skin disorder that needs to be taken care as soon as possible.

Society is eternally attracted to youth. Sometimes though, even when we feel young, our skin can betray our inner beauty by making us appear older than we feel. Especially as you age, it is important to the time to care for your skin. Your skin will thank you by being healthier and by looking and feeling better. Which skin care treatments can you use to keep your skin healthy and looking its best? Here are a few anti-aging skin care steps you can take to ensure that your skin holds up against the test of time.

The development of acne is said to have a close connection with the changes in hormones. Certain studies have noted that people suffering from acne often have oily skin due to the high level of androgen and testosterone hormones present on the body. With this finding, many experts have noted that the balance of androgen and estrogen hormones is then required to maintain a healthy skin, a sort of Yin and Yang phenomenon. So, if hormonal imbalances occur, acne tends to develop.

The belief on the acne and hormones connection holds that acne, which is influenced by hormones, often starts around the age of 19 to 24, thus it can affect both teens and mature women. At this stage, people will typically get lesions on the lower face, primarily in the chin as well as jaw line. It may also appear on the chest and back, although a majority of its victims are affected mainly on the face.

The acne and hormones connection further holds the idea that acne typically starts to appear when the body starts to produce androgen hormones. It is basically the androgens that incite the sebaceous glands to enlarge and emit sebum. The sebum then gets stocked in the follicle and then moves up to the hair shaft until it reaches the exterior part of the skin. As this movement occurs, the sebum then blends with bacteria which cause the hair follicle blockade. It is merely the blocked follicles which become the breeding area for bacteria, resulting in acne.

It is worth noting that hormones basically regulate every function of the body. As you may know, sleep, growth and some other related things largely depend upon your hormones. So, as it is mentioned above, when your hormones are out of balance, certain problems like acne may arise. And, if you hormones are in balance then there is no reason for acne to emerge.

The connection between acne and hormones also explains the occurrence of acne in teens as well as in adults. In teens, it is commonly noted that during the onset of puberty, androgens is produced which holds a major role in the development of acne. And, in the case of adults, the acne and hormones connection states that the menstrual cycle of every woman plays a role in its development. Certain reports in fact have noted that acne that worsens during a woman’s monthly cycle is not something that women will grow out of as they get older.

The exact cause of acne in most cases is not known. Many doctors believe that acne results from several different factors. One of such factors, and that is very important, is the rise in one’s hormone levels. During the pubescent years, the male sex hormones called androgens increase in boys and girls. This can cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum, which results in acne.

It is believed that the tendency on whether one develops acne or not is hereditary. Many studies have shown that boys who have acne also have a family history of acne. Acne is caused by when the sebaceous glands begin secreting oily substances onto the skin. Those with acne are especially sensitive to testosterone, and it triggers the glands to produce too much sebum, which is an oily substance.

Acne is caused by the sebaceous glands becoming over active and they then secrete oily substances on to the skin and those people with acne are especially sensitive to normal blood levels of the hormone called testosterone and this triggers the sebaceous glands to then produce an excess of sebum (oily substance).

While the oil increases, the dead skin cells that line the hair follicle openings are not shed, which in turns clogs the follicles. With the combination of excess oil and clogged follicles, blackheads and whiteheads form. For many people though, they experience acne only during puberty.

For others, the build up of oil in the hair follicles will create the ideal environment for Propionibacterium Acnes (a bacteria) to grow. This bacteria actually naturally grows on your skin and lives harmlessly, but in the “right” environment it will grow.

Propionibacterium Acnes feeds off the sebum, and then produces a substance causes the body’s immune system to react. This then inflames the skin and creates redness and spots.

In the more severe inflammatory acne cases cysts will develop beneath the skins surface and these can then rupture and spread the infection into nearby skin tissue this can often result in scarring to a person’s skin.

This article has provided some information as you the cause of acne. Other articles we’ve written include the types of acne explained, as well as acne treatments that are available.

One of the most mysterious aspects of acne (a very chronic skin condition) is the fact that acne causes are still unknown with certainty. However, the majority of the medical professionals believe that it stems from a number of related factors.

Among the acne causes that have been deemed responsible for this chronic skin condition has to do with the rising hormone levels. According to some studies, certain hormones known as androgens trigger the formation of acne as they enlarge the sebaceous glands in the skin. They then cause these oil-producing glands to increase sebum or oil production, which then leads to the formation of plugs, serving as more food for the acne-causing bacteria in the end. These hormones are actually present in both men and women, and usually surge at puberty. This fact explains why teenagers develop armpit and pubic hair, and why boys develop facial hair and deeper voices, other than why acne forms.

The bacteria that normally thrive on the skin has also been regarded to be in the group of the potential acne causes. These bacteria are known as Propionibacterium acnes, and they are responsible for causing the condition to develop. According to certain studies, acne develops as these bacteria emit substances that trigger redness and inflammation. Aside from that, they also make enzymes, which then dissolve the sebum or oil into the irritating substances that make the inflammation worse.

Other acne causes include estrogens, the female hormones. Estrogens play a large role in the development of acne particularly in girls. It is important to note first that a woman’s monthly menstrual cycle is a result of the changes in the estrogen levels in her body. This can actually explain why this skin condition in a female way get better and then get worse as she goes through her monthly menstrual cycle. Many doctors suggest treatments with birth control pills that contain the helpful estrogens.

Some people also believe that some genetic factors could be responsible as acne causes. As you may know, it can run in some families. So, many have thought that if you have parents or relatives who have had acne, there is also a great possibility that you’ll get it. With the genetic factors, many have claimed that there’s no way for you to stop acne from coming.

There are other several possible acne causes. Some examples of other possible acne causes involve, stress, cosmetics, medication and diet. These are just actually minor factors that can cause acne, but many have found out that they are somehow great aggravators of this skin condition. Stress and diet, in particular, don’t actually cause it to form, but many have believed that these two will potentially aggravate acne and some other skin condition you have.

So, after going over some of the most popular possible acne causes, perhaps the next best move would be to determine the form of acne to be treated. Finding the right treatment that can help reduce and eliminate your skin condition to a certain level takes some time but you can certainly find some good ones out there. However, don’t forget to consult your doctor for the best recommendation; this is very important.
