The exact cause of acne in most cases is not known. Many doctors believe that acne results from several different factors. One of such factors, and that is very important, is the rise in one’s hormone levels. During the pubescent years, the male sex hormones called androgens increase in boys and girls. This can cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum, which results in acne.

Acne can leave the skin looking red blotchy, and blemished. It can also leave scars, some easy to treat, and others more difficult. Many people who suffer from acne wish to cover it up, even if it is a mild form.
Some acne scars are easy to conceal. These are the scars left by milder forms of acne, or acne that is treated at the beginning of its course. Deeper scars are often caused by more severe types of acne and may require medical treatment to remove. These scars are not easily covered up by the use of cosmetics.

Acne vulgaris, commonly known as acne or pimples, is a common skin disorder that plagues about 85% to 100% of people at some time during their lives. It affects people of every age, gender and race, although it is more evident in teenagers. Acne vulgaris is actually characterized by non-inflammatory follicular papules or comedones as well as by inflammatory papules, pustules, and nodules in its more acute forms.
Acne vulgaris mainly affects the areas of the skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles. The common areas affected are the face, neck, upper part of the chest, and the back, although it may also appear on different parts of the body like the head and the genital area.
